NEET- What is NEET?

National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) is a National entrance examination for admission to undergraduate medical and dental courses. It is the first uniform examination for the undergraduate MBBS and BDS courses in India, which replaced the separate AIEEE and AIPMT examinations in 2013. The test was formulated after several recommendations of the 20th Report of the Expert Committee constituted by the Medical Council of India (MCI) and is intended to be a single common test for admission to all medical and dental colleges. NEET is conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Students who want to take admission in any medical or dental institution in India have to appear for the test. The Government of India allows only 14 lakh seats per year in all medical colleges.


Higher Education

NEET is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and is designed by the Medical Council of India (MCI) for the CBSE-administered zones. NDT or National Medical Test conducted by the Council of Educational Training, Training and Research (CTT&RT) for its constituent/affiliated colleges. The council is a statutory body that is responsible for ensuring that education quality is maintained.


NEET Exam Pattern

NEET exam is conducted for 5 days (7 am to 12 pm). In two each three streams, namely M.B.B.S. (five year integrated degree course), Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS), Bachelor of Surgery (B.S. O.B.) and Bachelor of Physiotherapy (B.P.O.T.) On the first day, the questions are of multiple choice type, in the other four days – paper 1 will be of paper number 1 type, whereas the paper 2 will be of paper number 2 type. The paper number 1 will consist of 200 marks, whereas paper 2 will contain 100 marks. NEET Exam Structure In the first week the question paper will be on average 40 to 45 pages. Each student will get 35 minutes to solve the paper. The marks for each question will be out in the evening of the day of the exam and will be noted on the answer sheet.


NEET Exam Syllabus

The medical/dental course provides both theory and practical training and the NEET exam is meant to test whether a candidate has a sufficient mastery over theory and ability to apply such knowledge practically to all the topics covered in the MBBS and BDS courses. NEET consists of three papers - Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. The total weightage of the papers in NEET paper 1 is 30 percent and for the papers 2 and 3, the weightage is 20 percent each. The weightage of the papers is 80 percent in the aggregate. NEET Exam in India

NEET is a national level entrance examination conducted by CBSE for admissions in the MBBS, BDS and other graduate medical and dental courses. This entrance test is conducted for any of the courses in medical and dental colleges all over India. NEET was conceptualized in the year 2006 by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to establish uniformity in higher educational admission policy of India. The guidelines were later approved by the Union Health Ministry in 2009 and the CBSE started conducting the test for admissions to undergraduate medical and dental courses in all the states. NEET Exam in India 2019 Schedule The schedule for NEET for 2019 is yet to be released. However, information regarding the examination is available on the official website of the CBSE.


NEET Exam Details

The exam is conducted in English and Hindi only. It is conducted in a computer based format. The examination will be of 100 marks and in each section, there will be questions containing up to 4 marks. Candidates will be allotted 25 marks for each correct answer and 5 marks for each incorrect answer. In case of a tie the candidate scoring higher marks will be declared the winner. Candidates are not allowed to leave their exam hall before the completion of the exam and can be disqualified if found absent.
